Utah rule sheet
| Benefit formula | 66⅔% of your average weekly wage, rounded to the nearest dollar.[1] |
|---|---|
| Maximum weekly | $1,376.00 a week for injuries Jul 1, 2026 – Jun 30, 2027 [2] |
| Minimum weekly | $45.00. The minimum is $45 a week plus $20 for a dependent spouse and $20 for each dependent child under 18 (up to four), but never more than your average weekly wage.[2] |
| How the limits are set | Maximum = 100% of the state average weekly wage, effective each July 1. |
| Waiting period | No pay for the first 3 days; they are paid if the disability lasts more than 14 days.[3] |
| How long TTD lasts | Not to exceed 312 weeks at the rate of 100% of SAWW over a period of 12 years from the date of injury.[1] |
| Partial (TPD) | 66-2/3% of the difference between AWW before the accident and weekly wages able to earn after, not more than 100% SAWW; plus $20 dependent spouse and $20 per dependent child under 18 (max 4), total not over 100% SAWW; max 312 weeks within 12 years of injury; no 3-day waiting period.[2] |
| Average weekly wage | Set by how wages are fixed at time of injury: yearly ÷ 52; monthly/4-1/3; weekly as is; daily × days worked (min 3); hourly × hours would have worked (min 20 hours); output-based: best 13-week period of last 52 weeks (excluding overtime/premium); commission may use another fair method.[4] |
Worked example, Oct 5, 2026
- Average weekly wage$1,000.00
- 66⅔% of wage, to nearest $1$667.00
- Inside the $45.00–$1,376.00 band$667.00
- Off work 28 days: waiting days paid back, 28 days paid$2,668.00
- Utah TTD per week$667.00
A higher earner at $2,500.00 a week would get $1,376.00 — the Utah maximum, not $1,667.00. A worker earning $300.00 would get $200.00.

What trips people up in Utah
- The weekly compensation rate is rounded to the nearest dollar.[4]
- Hourly workers' AWW uses at least 20 hours/week even if they worked fewer.[4]
- Dependent add-ons ($20 spouse/child) are part of the TTD minimum and the TPD rate, but the minimum can never exceed the worker's own AWW.[1]
- If released to light duty before recovery but the employer has no light duty work, TTD continues.[1]
- The 3-day waiting period applies only once, days need not be consecutive, and it does not apply to TPD/light duty at lower wage.[2]
