Ohio rule sheet
| Benefit formula | 72% of your full weekly wage for the first 12 weeks (never more than your net take-home pay), then 66⅔% of your average weekly wage for the year before the injury.[1] |
|---|---|
| Maximum weekly | $1,281.00 a week for injuries Jan 1, 2026 – Dec 31, 2026 [2] |
| Minimum weekly | $427.00. If your wage is below the minimum, the BWC pays your full wage.[2] |
| How the limits are set | Maximum = 100% of the state average weekly wage; minimum = one-third of it. Both are fixed by the calendar year of injury. |
| Waiting period | No pay for the first week unless you are totally disabled for two continuous weeks or more.[3] |
| How long TTD lasts | No week cap; TT not paid once the employee returns to work, treating provider states employee can return to former position, suitable work is made available, or employee reaches maximum medical improvement.[1] |
| Partial (TPD) | Wage loss: 66⅔% of the difference between AWW and present earnings, max SAWW; up to 200 weeks (working at other employment); up to 52 weeks if unable to find work (first 26 additional to the 200)[1] |
| Average weekly wage | For the first 12 weeks, the full weekly wage you were earning when hurt; after that, your average weekly wage for the year before the injury, leaving out time lost to illness, strikes, lockouts or other causes beyond your control.[4] |
Worked example, Oct 5, 2026
- Average weekly wage$1,000.00
- 72% of AWW, weeks 1–12$720.00
- Inside the $427.00–$1,281.00 band$720.00
- Off work 28 days: waiting days paid back, 28 days paid$2,880.00
- Ohio TTD per week$720.00
A higher earner at $2,500.00 a week would get $1,281.00 — the Ohio maximum, not $1,800.00. A worker earning $300.00 would get $300.00 (paid at the full wage).

What trips people up in Ohio
- Two rates: 72% of full weekly wage for the first 12 weeks (also capped at 100% of net take-home pay), then 66⅔% of the year-average weekly wage - the check often DROPS at week 13.[4]
- If you also collect Social Security retirement, TT max is cut to 66⅔% of SAWW ($854 for 2026 injuries).[1]
- First week unpaid unless off two continuous weeks; then paid immediately after the second week.[3]
- Below-minimum earners get their full wage, not the $427 minimum.[2]
- Max/min are fixed by the calendar year of injury.[5]
